Whose Name? |
When choosing a baby name, please remember this is your job, not your family and friends. You may ask for their opinion, or suggestions, but remeber you have the last say. Don't be pressured into selecting a name you don't really love. |
Trendy! |
Popular baby names come and go. By picking a trendy, or popular name, your child may end up the 4th child in his/her classroom with that name. Just be aware. |
Nickname |
All kids are given nicknames (good and bad), I'm sure you had one as well. Think about what nicknames will be created from the name you choose. Your child will have to live with this for his/her school years. |
Spelling |
Some names have multiple spellings. Ex: Steven, Stephen; Don, Dawn; Some names also have a male spelling and a female spelling. Be sure to research the spelling of your name choices, you don't want to have to change it later. |
Meanings |
Be aware of what the meaning is for your top choices of baby names. Some names have meanings you may not want. You can also search our names by meaning. |
Ethnic Origin |
There are some really beautiful names when you look at the different ethnic names. You do not need to stay within your ethnicity. |
Middle Name |
Middle names are often taken from elder family members. Either the first or middle name of your father or grandfather. Though this is a tradition, feel free to use your own choices. |
Last Name |
Please be aware of your last name, and initials when choosing baby names. If your last name is 'Donald' you may not want to choose 'Ronald' for your child's first name. Can you see a nickname in the making? You will want to stay away from plays on words and rhyming names. |
Test Test Test! |
Once you have your names narrowed down, test, test, test! Say them out loud, switch around middle names. You can't test names too much. |
Agree |
Does your spouse like the names you chose? It is very important that you both agree on the names you choose. |
